Career Ed, I-81 Funds Among Priorities For Head

A 12-year veteran of the House of Delegates, Republican Del. Christopher Head of Botetourt County is seeking election this fall to the state Senate in newly reconfigured District 3, which encompasses all of the Rockbridge area.

Of the recently approved state budget, which passed after a protracted stalemate due to a politically divided General Assembly, Head commented, “I am glad that lawmakers in Richmond were able to agree on something. We did not get everything in the budget that we wanted, and there is still work to be done, but I am proud of the work we were able to accomplish in the House this session, including passing this budget.”

Work remains to be done, he said. In the upcoming session, if he’s elected, “I am going to push hard to get additional funding for I-81, mental health and substance abuse investments for Catawba Hospital, and funding for the establishment and expansion of career and technical vocational education programs throughout our region and the commonwealth. These are the issues that voters are talking about, and I look forward to being their advocate in the state Senate.”

With all 140 seats in the General Assembly up for election, it’s important to elect Republicans, according to Head, so that Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s policies can be enacted. The GOP governor, he said, “has already accomplished a lot of good things for Virginia. He is cutting taxes for middle-class Virginians, putting parents back in control of their children’s education, and funding law enforcement so our streets are safer. If Republicans are able to control both chambers, we will be able to continue making Virginia a better, safer, more prosperous place to live.”

As for Younkin’s legislative proposal that would prohibit abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, Head said, “I am pro-life. I also agree with the governor’s stance on this issue and will support legislation that protects the life of the mother and the baby.”

He noted that “candidates across Virginia are talking about the issues that matter most to voters. In the next session, we need leaders in the state Senate to stand up and fight for a reduction in regulatory barriers so our businesses can thrive and expand. We must protect our seniors who have spent their lives living and working in Virginia. And we must defend the rights of students and put parents back in control of their children’s education. These are the issues that voters, small business owners and concerned parents are talking about, and these are the issues that are mobilizing voters throughout Virginia.”

Head and his wife Betsy are the owners of Home Instead Senior Care in Roanoke and Lynchburg. “As a small business owner,” he said, “I understand how hard times are for Virginia families. In my 12 years serving in Richmond, I have been a consistent conservative voice for our community. Virginia is at a crossroads, and we need to elect proven leaders who can get to work on day one, fighting for our values and fighting for a better way of life.”
