The Southern Virginia University men’s cross country team won its third consecutive league championship at the USA South Conference Championships on Saturday in Rocky Mount, N.C., while the SVU women placed second of eight teams.
SVU junior Dylan May won the men’s individual title for the third consecutive year, finishing the 8-kilometer course in 25 minutes, 2 seconds. May, a 2020 Parry McCluer High School graduate, was named the USA South runner of the year for the third straight year, while SVU head coach Kyle Chandler was named men’s coach of the year.
Kedryn Chandler, an SVU senior and a a 2021 PM graduate, placed second in 26:19, and sophomore teammate Will Collett finished fifth in 26:49. The next three Knights in were junior Joseph Short (sixth, 26:58), senior Quin Meyer (seventh, 27:03) and freshman Joseph Hughes (eighth, 27:05).
The Knights had 21 points. Pfeiffer placed second of seven teams with 53 points, and Brevard (82) finished third In the women’s race, SVU placed second with 49 points, trailing only Meredith (23), while Pfeiffer (53) finished third.
Freshman Lissie Hill led the SVU women, placing fourth on the 6K course 23:41. Junior teammate Savanna Chapin placed ninth in 24:45, and SVU junior Lilly Dalebout finished 10th in 24:46.
