Rafiki Sale To Benefit African Widows Program

Lexington’s annual Rafiki sale will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to noon at Grace Presbyterian Church located at 40 Village Way, Lexington.

Products being offered this year include jewelry, crafts, baskets, bags and toys, all made by African widows. All proceeds from the sale go to support the Rafiki Widows Program.

Rafiki has villages in 10 African countries that house, educate and care for children orphaned by AIDS or other crises. In recent years, Rafiki’s emphasis has been on education. Day students may now attend Rafiki schools when room is available. In addition to its work with orphans, Rafiki has a program for widows. In Africa when a husband dies, the widow can lose everything – her possessions, her house and even her children. There may be more widows in Africa than orphans.

In the Rafiki program, widows are given a space in which to work, guidance in improving their skills, a time of fellowship, and daily Bible study. Rafiki purchases their products at a fair price and brings them to the U.S. to market them.

These are the products that will be on sale at Grace Presbyterian Church. They may also be purchased through the Rafiki website, rafikifoundation.org.
