The board of directors of The Children’s Clinic announced that its biweekly pediatrician’s clinics and other services would cease at the end of the year. - Lexington High School’s football team beat Buffalo Gap 54-0. - The Econo-Travel Motor Hotel opened on U.S. 11 North. Rooms were $8.50 for single occupancy and $11 for double.

The oversized busts of 19th century U.S. presidents Zachary Taylor, Abraham Lincoln and William Henry Harrison were removed from Glen Maury Park and headed east to the new Presidents Park museum in Williamsburg. . -Republican Del. Ben Cline of the 24th District held on to his seat in the General Assembly in the recent election. Democratic Sen. Creigh Deeds of the 25th District ran unopposed.
- The Rutherford Institute, a legal organization that takes up conservative causes, entered the battle over the ban on the display of the Confederate flag in Rockbridge County Schools.
