John "Butch" Wheeler of Buena Vista died Nov. 14

John Edgar “Butch” Wheeler of Buena Vista passed away Nov. 14, 2023.

Born Nov. 29, 1942, he was the son of the late Doc and Myrtle Wheeler.

Butch was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty-Jo Wheeler; oldest son, John Douglas Wheeler; brothers, Billy and Bernard Wheeler; and sisters, Sis Beverly and Alice Clark.

Butch was a member of First Brethren Church of Buena Vista.  He retired from Bonded Fibers and was a lifetime member of Buena Vista Rescue Squad where he received many awards.  He loved sports, gardening and outdoors.  He spent the past year at Shenandoah Health & Rehab where he connected with old friends and a staff who loved him as their own.  A very special roommate, Dallas Irvine, watched over him.  We are grateful to them all. 

Surviving are his son, Chris Wheeler (Nicole); daughter-in-law, Brenda Wheeler; grandchildren, Derrick Wheeler (Kotty), Shane Wheeler and Cameron Wheeler; great grandchildren, Aiden, Koda, and Clara; brother-in-law, Larry Lawhorne (Debby); and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at First Brethren Church by the Rev. Adam Williams. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
