The big news this week, of course, is the Matt’s Creek fire, and the smoke and ashes and unsettled nerves of those who live near by. On Sunday afternoon, a line of back fire (aerial ignitions) was set along the mountain range across the river from town, thus the phrase, “fighting fire with fire.” This is a method used to eliminate fuel for the actual fire so that it will burn itself out. Much needed rain is forecast and hopefully, by the time this paper is published most of the fire will have been eliminated.

Congrats to Rockbridge County High School senior Payton Emore, who has accepted a scholarship offer and committed to play softball for Bryant & Stratton College to continue her academic and softball career. Payton is the daughter of Jimmy and Margaret Emore of Glasgow.
