The response to a survey about access to broadband internet service in Rockbridge County has been good but many respondents who have run tests on their internet speeds have only run the tests once – not the three times required for the results to be considered valid.
Rockbridge County Administrator Spencer Suter is seeking to get the word out to all survey participants that they must conduct the internet speed tests three times on three separate days. The tests are being conducted to ascertain what areas of the county have inadequate internet service or none at all. The results will allow the county to fill in these gaps by qualifying for state or federal assistance to pay for the improvements.
“We received a sample of the test results thus far, and many residents have run the speed test. Unfortunately, a majority have only tested once or twice. It is absolutely critical that folks run the tests at least three times, on three different days,” said Suter. “If you can’t recall how many times you have run the test, just run it again two or three more times, on different days, to ensure proper documentation of your results.”
To ensure your results are included in the final tabulation, tests must be concluded by the close of business this Friday, Nov. 24. Therefore, residents who haven’t conducted any tests yet or those who still need to complete the testing should do so today, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
