Several organizations and individuals were recognized by Rockbridge Conservation during its annual meeting on Nov. 5 at Rockbridge Area Relief Association’s Piovano Building.
The 2023 conservation award winners who were honored included The News-Gazette, Conservation Leadership Award; Don Hasfurther, Historic Preservation Award; Historic Lexington Foundation, Historic Preservation Award; Steve and Wendy Richards, Lifetime Conservationist Award; and Horace Douty, Special Recognition.
Events began with a guided walk through Oak Grove Cemetery and a tour of the RARA’s updated facility. The group of roughly 65 individuals gathered to enjoy a potluck meal, bid on auction and raffle items, and celebrate a year’s worth of accomplishments.
Guest speaker Valerie Moliterno, treasurer for RARA, gave a talk about the current goals of RARA and the recent endeavors of the Neighborhood Grocery.
The organization also recognized retiring board member Larry Evans, and welcomed new and returning board members Astrika Adams, Sally Nunneley and Eli Fishpaw.
Officer nominations and election results included Shannon Spencer as vice president, Megan Hess as treasurer, and Sally Nunneley as secretary.
Welcomed to the Rockbridge Conservation staff were Kirin Lattomus as communications administrator and Ashleigh Jugan as the facilitator for Lexington’s Healthy Green Neighborhood Collaborator.
A special thanks was given to the Waste Prevention Committee for making this event zero-waste.
