The Rockbridge SPCA will be busy this holiday season with many events.
Each year, for the past 28 years, the SPCA lines the walkways of Hopkins Green with over 300 luminary bags in honor or memory of a special pet or person. SPCA board members and volunteers decorate bags, fill bags with kitty litter, candles, and set out the luminaries for all to enjoy during the lighting of the Lexington Christmas tree. Luminaries will be displayed this year on Friday, Nov. 24, at dark.
Next, look for SPCA dogs in the Lexington Downtown Christmas Parade. Shelter dogs will strut their stuff while walking in the parade Friday, Dec. 1.
The SPCA annual Christmas open house will be full of activity this year. Area residents can drop off donations under the SPCA Christmas tree, enjoy some refreshments, take a tour of the shelter, or bring their pet for photos with Santa, just $10 per photo.
And, during the open house will be the grand opening of the SPCA’s do-it-yourself dog wash, “The Spaw.”
“Don’t break your back bending over to wash your dog,” said an SPCA spokeswoman. “Use our hydraulic lifting dog tub to get dirty dogs done dirt cheap. Just $10 per dog includes soap, towels, brushes, nail trimmers and a dryer.”
