Mountain Gateway Community College will offer two high-demand courses for IT professionals, Linux Administration and Cloud Computing, at the Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista during the spring 2024 semester.
Led by MGCC instructor Alexander Morrow, these classes are tailored to equip individuals with the skills needed to thrive in the everevolving tech landscape.
The first eight-week session, “Linux Administration: Mastering the Operating System,” will focus on Linux Administration, including the installation, configuration, and administration of the Linux operating system. Emphasizing the utilization of Linux as a network client and workstation, this course equips learners with the skills vital for contemporary IT roles.
The second eight-week session, “Cloud Computing: The Future of IT Infrastructure,” will concentrate on cloud computing, making a deep dive into the intricacies of cloud infrastructure, covering deployment, security models, and key considerations when transitioning to cloud computing. Participants will explore the technologies and processes required to construct traditional, virtualized, and cloud data center environments. From computation and storage to networking, desktop and application virtualization, business continuity, security, and management, this course offers a comprehensive understanding of cloud technology.
In today’s digital age, proficiency in cloud computing and Linux administration is non-negotiable for IT professionals, said Morrow. The demand for skilled individuals in these domains is at an all-time high, with businesses increasingly relying on cloud solutions and open-source technologies. Those adept in these areas find themselves at the forefront of burgeoning career opportunities and are invaluable assets to any forward-thinking organization.
“Learning these skills isn’t just an advantage — it’s a necessity,” said Morrow. “Professionals need to stay ahead of the curve, and these courses are designed to provide a competitive edge in the fast-paced IT industry.”
Both courses are three credits each and are taught in consecutive eight-week sessions, beginning Jan. 17. Class will meet weekly on Wednesday nights from 6 to 8:50 at the MGCC Rockbridge Regional Center, located at 35 Vista Links Drive.
Also, both courses are part of a career studies certificate in cloud computing.
