Blues Fall 56-53 In Season Opener Against Altavista

 

The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team fell 56-53 in their season opener on Monday night against the Altavista Colonels in Buena Vista.

 

Langston Cook led the Blues with 15 points, and Evan Cook led the Blues in assists with four. Nathan Glass had ten rebounds and two blocks.

 

At the start of the game, Nathan Glass opened the scoring for the Blues with a three pointer. Parry McCluer would go on to extend their lead to 17-12 at the end of the first quarter. 

 

The second quarter started with Altavista’s Anthony Clay putting in nine points for the Colonels, while Langston Cook scored four for the Blues in that span to make the score 21-21. Parry McCluer and Altavista went into halftime tied with Altavista 30-30.

 

The third quarter started with the Blues’ JJ Jones, Glass, and Langston Cook all putting in points to make the score 36-34 against the Colonels. Langston Cook scored a three pointer to make the score 39-34, and the Blues led the rest of the half. The third quarter ended 46-42 for the Blues.

 

Late in the fourth quarter, the Blues trailed 50-53. Braedon Houck scored a three pointer to tie the score 53-53 with close to a minute left in the game. In the last ten seconds the Colonels took the lead, and the game finished 56-53.

The Blues will be in action again in Buena Vista when they take on James River High School on Wednesday, November 29th. Junior-varsity action will start at 5:30, followed by the varsity teams. For more on the story and photos, check out our Dec. 6 newspaper.
