Making The Grade

Two local students who attend Virginia Military Institute, five who attend Washington and Lee University and 12 who attend Southern Virginia University were recently inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society.

Two local students who attend Virginia Military Institute, five who attend Washington and Lee University and 12 who attend Southern Virginia University were recently inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society.

The two VMI students are Blake Darmante of Lexington and Emma Funkhouser of Fairfield.

The W&L students include Dominique Cravins, Simon Ciccarillo, Haley Carter, Morgan Brody and Tom Boss, all of Lexington.

The SVU students include Jared Smith, Ricardo Diego, Devon Mason, Matthew Mc-Cubbins, Ethan Campbell, Eric Dahl, Janna Tidwell, Thomas Tidwell, Alea Willis, Lucianne Apodaca, Whitney Ofa, all of Buena Vista; and Katherine Kloepping of Lexington.

Students initiated into the society must be sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate/ professional students in the top 35% of their class, demonstrate leadership experience in at least one of the five pillars, and embrace the ODK ideals. Fewer than 5 percent of students on a campus are invited to join each year. -On Sept. 6, a Rockbridge County student, Delaney Morris of Vesuvius, was honored by the Oklahoma State University Ferguson College of Agriculture and received an academic scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year. -Travis Dameron of Raphine graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from James Madison University during commencement exercises in August. -Making the president’s list for the summer term at Southern New Hampshire University were Jacob Garrison of Lexington and Sean Nicolai of Natural Bridge Station.

Deanne Moosman of Rockbridge Baths was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective alldiscipline collegiate honor society. Moosman was initiated at Northern Illinois University.

-Margaret Hellwig of Lexington was named to the spring 2023 dean’s list at Berry College. -Alia Clements from Buena Vista was named to the spring dean’s list at Bob Jones University.

-Shaun Hennelly of Natural Bridge Station was named to Southern New Hampshire University’s winter 2023 president’s list. -Mountain Gateway Community College announced its president’s and vice president’s lists for the spring 2023 semester.

Named to the president’s list were Durham Baker and Sydney Ann Mahaffey of Buena Vista; Ana Easter Vassey of Glasgow; Zachary Thornton of Goshen; and Parker Isaac Mace and Christian Haskett of Lexington.

Named to the vice president’s list were Kovyk Andrew Chandler, Kaden Joseph Forren, Chloe Mohler, Chasity Faith Reynolds, Talen Roberts, Aaron James Wheeler and Brittany Marie Wootten, all of Buena Vista; Jack Robert Alexander of Rockbridge Baths; Dania Lee Thomas-Woolfrey of Glasgow; Lettie Catheryn Alphin of Goshen; Amelia Delaney Barrett, Trinity Renae Campbell, Maille Carrington, Devin Clark, John Wyatt Cole III, Gisselle Cruz-Gijon, Desiré Horsley, Isabelle Marie Huntsman, Tanya le-vette Suitte and Alyssa J. Turner, all of Lexington; and Dane decoda Urban of Natural Bridge.
