The annual Christmas dinner at the Palmer Community Center will be held on Sunday, Dec. 3, beginning at 5 p.m. A time of fellowship and the singing of favorite Christmas carols will follow the evening meal. Community residents are invited to attend and to bring a favorite side dish, salad or dessert to share. The main entrée and beverages will be provided. The event is sponsored by the Palmer Community Center and the Effinger Ruritan Club.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Night Circle will hold its December meeting on Thursday, Dec. 7, in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m. A light supper in the church kitchen will begin at 6:30 followed by the Bible study. Jeanne Staton will lead the study on the Christian virtue of Wisdom from I Corinthians 1:18-31. All women are invited to join the group in-person or on Facebook Live at 7.

The Rockbridge Christmas Basket packing day will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 8 a.m. until noon at the Virginia Horse Center. Community members are being asked to assist with the packing of Christmas Baskets for needy individuals and families. E ffinger Ruritans will deliver baskets to recipients following the packing event.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, from 2 until 4 p.m. Santa will be visiting boys and girls in the field across from the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department. Santa’s visit is being hosted by the community’s seven churches ‒ Collierstown Baptist, Presbyterian and United Methodist churches along with Mt. Horeb United Methodist, Oxford Presbyterian, Rapps Mill Church and Union View Advent Christian Church. Children will be able to drop off their letters to Santa, talk with Santa, and have their pictures taken with him.

On Sunday, Dec. 10, following the morning worship service at Collierstown Presbyterian Church, the Christian Education committee and the Night Circle will host a Christmas wrapping event for four angel tree children in the community. Pizza will be provided for families that come and participate. Other holiday activities will be a part of the afternoon for the children and youth who participate.

The Effinger Ruritan Club will hold their December meeting and holiday event at the Seclusion on Wednesday, Dec. 13.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold its Christmas program led by the children during the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 17 in the church sanctuary. They will be performing a skit entitled “A Very Mixed Up Christmas.” Light refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow in the church’s fellowship hall. The Collierstown Presbyterian Church Christmas Eve service will be held in conjunction with the Dec. 24 11 a.m. worship service in the church sanctuary.

The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department will host a Christmas dance on Saturday evening, Dec. 16, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Music will be provided by The Worx. The doors will open at 8 p.m. Patrons must have tickets in hand for admission. The cost of a ticket is $25 per person and patrons must be 21 years old. Tickets may be purchased by calling (540) 460-3980.
