Area residents are encouraged to bring family and friends to Boxerwood this Saturday between 1 and 5 p.m. for the nature center’s annual Gifts of Nature workshop.
Families can craft decorations that feed the winter birds and spruce up their homes, inside and out. Participants can twist honeysuckle and grapevine into wreaths or swags, and then tie on bird-healthy treats, such as cranberry garlands, dried fruit kabobs, peanut-buttered pinecones and suet-filled citrus cups.
“A crafts table is stocked for making one-of-a-kind ornaments and gifts of nature for your favorite humans, too!” said a Boxerwood spokesperson.
Boxerwood will provide vines, cones, winter berries and greenery, as well as suet, raffia, ribbon and other project supplies. Families are asked to bring one type of wildlife food, such as birdseed, nuts in shells, dried fruits, popcorn, or fresh cranberries to share with other participants.
The “family fee” to participate is $5 for Boxerwood member families or $10 for non-member families.
The workshop will take place outdoors under the big pavilion and on the lawn area in front of the lodge. Dress for whatever the weather may be. A wood fire and warm cider will help keep everyone warm.
In the event of rain, the program will be postponed to Sunday, Dec. 10.
Boxerwood is located at 963 Ross Road in Lexington. For more information or weather update, visit Boxerwood on Facebook, @loveboxerwood, or www.boxerwood.org, or call (540) 463-2697.
