Varsity and junior varsity girls basketball teams from both Parry McCluer and Rockbridge County high schools will compete in PM’s Jaden Baker Tournament in Buena Vista this weekend.
Northside and Rappahannock County round out the field for the ninth annual edition of this event. The tournament honors the memory of Buena Vista’s Jaden Baker, an 8-year-old who lost her life in a car accident in 2013.
Varsity action will take place at Parry McCluer High School on Friday. The Wildcats will take on Rappahannock County at 5:30 p.m., while the Blues face off against Northside at 7 p.m.
The junior varsity games will run in reverse order at Parry McCluer Middle School, with the PM-Northside matchup slated for 5:30 Friday evening and the RC-Rappahannock game set for 7.
Saturday’s schedule features four games at PMHS. The Wildcats meet Northside in JV action at 1 p.m., followed by the varsity game between the two teams. The PM and Rappahannock JV teams will play at 4 p.m., with the varsity contest set to follow.
Rappahannock County is the defending Class 1 state champion, while PM finished 22-3 overall in 2022-23 and reached the Region 1C semifinals. Class 3 schools RC and Northside also return to the event, where the Vikings beat both the Wildcats and the Blues last year.
Admission is $7 for the general public and $4 for senior citizens and Buena Vista City Public Schools system students. Virginia High School League and Virginia High School Coaches Association passes will be accepted.
