The Music at Noon concert series at Lexington Presbyterian Church will present keyboardists Daniel Brinson and William McCorkle in three concerts on Wednesdays, Dec. 6, 13 and 20, all at noon in the Lexington Presbyterian sanctuary.
Today’s concert will feature Daniel Brinson. His program includes two sets of piano pieces by contemporary composers. The first evokes the lights of the season – “Carols of Light,” by New England composer Gwyneth Walker, three carol arrangements connected by themes of light. The second is “Winter Songs” by popular Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo. Each movement is based on a theme associated with winter (home, winter, sky, snow) and the last is an improvisation on the familiar carol “Silent Night.”
Brinson is an organist, pianist and church musician, having formerly served at Grace Episcopal Church in Lexington. He currently serves as music minister at Trinity Episcopal Church in Charlottesville, where he lives with his family and enjoys participating with various choral groups and musicians.
McCorkle, organist/director of music at Lexington Presbyterian, will offer the other two programs. The Dec. 13 concert, on the church’s C.B. Fisk pipe organ, opus 128, will consist of organ music for Advent and Christmas. O n Dec. 20, McCorkle will continue his tradition of keyboard improvisations on Christmas tunes.
