SYLVIA RATCLIFFE

Sylvia Pauley Ratcliffe, 87, of Buena Vista, peacefully stepped away from this life and into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023.

Sylvia was born June 24, 1936, in Bland County, daughter of the late John and Mollie Hounshell Pauley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Ratcliffe; son, Gary Lee Edwards; stepson Larry Ratcliffe; brothers Billy, Ralph, Elmer and Andrew Pauley; and sister Virginia Thompson Holston.

She is survived by her grandson Brandon Edwards (Kim) of Raphine; granddaughters Tonya Edwards of Roanoke and Hannah Edwards of Vinton; three greatgrandchildren, Luke, Kendal and Evan Edwards; one sister, Oreta (Rita) Holston; stepsons Darrell (Gaynell) Ratcliffe and Jeff (Tina) Ratcliffe; step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Sylvia and her late husband, Luther, successfully operated the Tastee-Freez in Buena Vista in the late ‘70s. She later went on to work at Premiere before finishing her career at Burlington Industries. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Glasgow for many years. Sylvia loved spending time with her family and will be deeply missed.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Harrison Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
