Facing two larger schools, the Parry McCluer High School wrestling team had several strong individual performances, but the Fighting Blues lost to Wilson Memorial and Broadway in a tri-meet last Wednesday at Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville.
Against the two Class 3 schools, PM, a Class 1 school, suffered a 63-32 setback against Wilson Memorial and fell to Broadway 48-27.
PM head coach Jeremiah Brockenbrough noted that the Blues lost some points because several of their wrestlers aren’t competing in the right weight classes, but they hope to fix that soon.
Three PM wrestlers went 3-0: junior Jackson Brockenbrough at 150-pounds and sophomores Clyde Vassar (106) and Jacob Shafer (132). Two promising PM freshmen, Bobby Crowe (175) and Kaiden Conner (190), both went 1-1.
“Our freshmen are starting to get acclimated,” said Brockenbrough. “They’re getting to where they should be. December is the learning curve for young wrestlers.”
Today, Wednesday, the Blues will play host to Alleghany and Giles at 5 p.m., with high school and middle school wrestlers competing at the same time.
