Many thanks to all community residents who participated in the Rockbridge Christmas Basket packing day held at the Virginia Horse Center on Saturday, Dec. 9. Special thanks to those who delivered baskets to community families. The Effinger Ruritans appreciate the support that was extended to our friends and neighbors.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, Santa stopped by to meet and visit the community’s children in the pavilion at the Collierstown Baptist Church when rain threatened to prevent his outdoor stop at Effinger. Special thanks to the Collierstown Baptist Church family for extending hospitality to Santa and the community’s children. Thanks also to the Collierstown Presbyterian and United Methodist churches along with Mt. Horeb United Methodist, Oxford Presbyterian, Rapps Mill Church, and Union View Advent Christian Church who helped sponsor the afternoon’s event.

Lighting the Advent candle at the Collierstown United Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 10, were the church’s Sunday school children. The children also presented their Christmas play during the worship service under the direction of Hannah Straub and Delores Rhodenizer. A time of fellowship and light refreshments followed.

Members of the Collierstown United Methodist Church will sing Christmas carols at Havenwood Assisted Living at 9 a.m. on Dec. 20. A Christmas Eve service for the Collierstown United Methodist Charge will be held at 7 p.m. at the Collierstown church. Speaking at the 11 a.m. worship service of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Dec. 10, was Burr Datz. Leading the lighting of the Advent candle were Carter, Georgia, and Thomas Goodbar. Following the worship service, the Christian education committee and the Night Circle hosted a Christmas gift wrapping event for four angel tree children in the community. A pizza lunch and fellowship were enjoyed by families and members participating in the Angel tree project.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold its Christmas program led by the children during the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 17, in the church sanctuary. Light refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall. The Christmas Eve service will be held in conjunction with the Dec. 24 morning worship service in the church sanctuary.

The Union View Advent Christian Church will have a time of Christmas fellowship following the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 17. A Christmas Eve worship service will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 24. At 6 p.m. a second Christmas Eve service will be held at Union View.

The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department will host a Christmas Dance on Saturday evening, Dec. 16, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Music will be provided by The Worx. The doors will open at 8 p.m. Patrons must have tickets in hand for admission. The cost of a ticket is $25 per person and patrons must be 21 years old. Tickets may be purchased by calling (540) 460-3980.
