The Rockbridge Sheriff’s Department and the FBI were investigating a robbery at the Bank of Rockbridge office in Brownsburg. Two armed men made off with about $4,000. - Truck drivers interviewed at White’s Truck Stop in Raphine expressed dissatisfaction with the new 55 miles per hour speed limit on the interstate. The energy crisis was affecting them as well with fuel shortages cutting into their paychecks. - The Natural Bridge ice skating rink opened for the season. Admission was $1 for adults and 75 cents for children 12 and under.

Despite persistent inclement weather, construction of Buena Vista’s new golf course was on schedule and would be operating under the name Vista Links. - Gen. Binford Peay III, superintendent at Virginia Military Institute, announced plans for capital improvements totaling $100 million. These plans would not only drastically change the appearance of the post, but also the north end of Lexington. - Facing a projected $10,000 deficit in its cafeteria fund, the Buena Vista school board opted to raise the price of school lunches by 15 cents.
