New Monmouth Presbyterian Church celebrated the second Sunday of Advent, and the youth group led the lighting of the advent wreath. Thank you to the children (and adult helpers) who played two handbell pieces for the worship service.
Two groups of carolers went out from New Monmouth on Sunday afternoon to bring Christmas cheer to our homebound folks. The youth met up for hot chocolate and cookies at the home of Tim and Janeen after their caroling outing.
The elementary-aged children are invited to the Clark’s home for cookie decorating on Monday, Dec. 18, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Christmas Eve is on Sunday this year. We will have our usual 11 a.m. service, including the opportunity to play a part in the nativity (no memorized lines required - just pick up a costume from the back of the sanctuary!). We will have our candlelight service at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club met at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church on Nov. 19. John Burleson spoke about septic systems. He noted the Friday after Thanksgiving is called “Brown Friday” since this is one of the busiest days for septic system companies.
Veterans were recognized for their service.
The Natural Bridge District meeting was held on Nov. 4 at the Covington Boys Home. The club was awarded certificates for community service. In the areas of environment, public service and transportation, as well as citizenship and patriotism, the club was awarded bronze. In the areas of social development and community engagement, the club was awarded silver. The club had 1,798 community service hours for the year. The club also received the Birthday Fund Award and a plaque of appreciation from the Foundation.
