KAREN POWELL

Karen Viola Powell, 63, of Natural Bridge passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023.

Born Jan. 27, 1960, in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of Marvin Jim Powell and Barbara Viola Watkins Powell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Sharon Marie.

She is survived by brother Marvin (Amy) and sister Tracy (John); much loved nieces and nephews Staci (Ron), Tiffany, Justin (Les), Raegan, Jessica, Casadee, Clayton and Conner; lots of close relatives, special friends, and her precious dog Riley.

She served in the Army as an air traffic controller and spent several years in places like Osan, Korea, and Huntsville, Ala., choosing to return home to be near family and friends when her service ended. Before illness slowed her down, Karen loved spending time at outdoor events at North Creek and on the Parkway. She was always very dedicated and protective of those she loved.

Karen will be laid to rest at a graveside service 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at the Johnson Family Cemetery surrounded by family and friends. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
