Glasgow is once again looking for a new town manager.
In the meantime, a man familiar to both Glasgow and Lexington residents has stepped in to help.
Jon Ellestad, who was city manager of Lexington from 1990 to 2014 and who previously served as interim Glasgow town manager for eight months in 2018-2019, assumed the interim role once again Dec. 13.
Phil Robinette, who became Glasgow’s town manager in June, has accepted a job in Saltville, closer to his home in Tennessee. He had succeeded George Hayfield, who had resigned in March after a two-year stint with the town.
Robinette had informed Town Council at Council’s November meeting that he had been contacted about the new job but that he had not made a decision. Since then, though, he decided to accept the job and has already left.
In other staffing news, Tammy Cash, who was hired as director of finance, has resigned and Sissy Agnor Steelman has been hired for that position.
The final meeting for 2023 of Glasgow Town Council, which was scheduled to be held at the Thompson Center, turned out to be a nonmeeting due to a lack of Council members. The Council consists of six members; however, there have been only five following the resignation of one member earlier this year. Those members present were Marcie Hill, Brandall Branch and Tom Camden. Due to health issues, two other members, Natalie Harris and Lisa Rogers, were unable to attend this final meeting, making it impossible to conduct a regular meeting, nor conduct any official business.
The only item of business was the swearing in of recently elected Council members Tom Camden and Kent Dunn and Mayor Paul Williams. Lisa Rogers will be sworn in at a later date. These were sworn in by Clerk of Court Michelle Trout.
In other business, it was learned that the offer made by the town on the Presbyterian Church property was turned down.
The Council and town staff plan to enjoy a holiday party on Dec. 22 at the Thompson Center.
