Dec. 11, 2023 Editor, The News-Gazette: When I think about Christmas my mind goes back to my childhood when Christ was the main feature. Christmas carols and manger scenes were the main attractions we enjoyed so much.
What has happened to the day when Christ was honored and celebrated for the King that he was, and still is?
It is a shame that Santa Claus has now become the one to be praised and looked up to.
You see nothing to remind you of the true meaning of Christmas unless you go to church, and see a very few manger scenes in yards, but not many.
Christ was born in a manger and then walked the earth for about 33 years before He was crucified and hung on an old rugged cross, bled and died for our sins that we may have forgiveness for all our sins and have eternal life.
Can you picture Him now with tears streaming down his face after all He has done for us, and now something else has pushed Him aside and taken His place?
This country has done all it can to take even His name off of everything public and forbidden prayer that mentions His precious name.
This is not Christmas to me anymore without Christ as the main honoree.
Santa Claus is okay in his own place but please don’t let him push aside the celebration of Christ’s birthday, the real meaning of Christmas. THELMA CLEMENTS Fairfield
