William Howell Wright, 98, a resident of Kendal at Lexington, died Nov. 26, 2023.

William Howell Wright, 98, a resident of Kendal at Lexington, died Nov. 26, 2023.

He was born July 8, 1925, in Carroll County, Ga., son of the late Grady Theron and Forrest Robinson Wright.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Jane Aldhizer Wright; his son, William H. “Chip” Wright Jr.; and his sisters Wilma W. Kenney and Willa Sue White.

He is survived by two sons, Watson Howell Wright of Palm Beach, Fla., and John Brook Wright of Richmond; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

After serving on active duty in the United States Navy for four years, Mr. Wright graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1951 and worked 40 years in an engineering department of Allied Signal Corporation (currently Honeywell International) while living mostly in Petersburg.

In Petersburg, he was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, a member and president of the Petersburg Rotary Club and served as a volunteer financial assistant for the Southside Virginia Emergency Crew.

After moving to Lexington, he joined Lexington Presbyterian Church and the Sons of the American Revolution, was a volunteer at the Stonewall Jackson House, and participated in the Residents Association at Kendal.

A private graveside service will be held Dec. 28, at the Oak Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 28 in Kendal Hall at Kendal at Lexington.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Lexington Presbyterian Church, the Rockbridge Area Relief Association or Prevent Blindness.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kendal for the kind care they provided Dad for nearly 20 years.
