Lighting the fourth Advent candle at the Collierstown United Methodist Church on Sunday morning, Dec. 24, were Pastor and Mrs. Bill Bearden. At the 7 p.m. Christmas Eve service, the Beardens lit the Christ Candle as a part of worship for the Collierstown United Methodist Charge.

There will be a men’s breakfast at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, Dec. 30, at the Collierstown United Methodist Church. The Fifth Sunday worship service for the Collierstown United Methodist Charge will be held at the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 31, with both congregations worshipping together.

Leading the Christmas Eve worship service and the observance of the sacrament of Communion at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church was the Rev. Bill Klein. The lighting of the fourth Advent candle was done by Justis, Hayden and Zola Ann Richardson. The Christ Candle was lit at the close of the service by Jake andAnn Gentry and their children Chessie and Deacon.

The Night Circle of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church will meet Thursday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall. An optional light supper will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jeanne Staton will lead the evening’s study on the Christian virtue of “Justice.” The text for the lesson is taken from Isaiah 61. For more information, contact Debbie Mc-Cormick at (540) 460-1325. All women are invited to join the group in person or on Facebook Live at 7 p.m.

As the 2023 year ends, the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department, first responders, and auxiliary would like to thank the members of the community, the Effinger Ruritan Club, and the many patrons that have offered help with their fundraising events. Your support has been vital, enabling the fire department and first responders to better serve the greater Effinger community.
