Escaped Downtown Cat Found

Escaped Downtown Cat Found

A cat that escaped from the Lexington Pet Place last week was found yesterday, and is now back in the care of the store.

“It’s kind of one in a million,” said store owner Cindi Jacobs Friday. “I was worried he’d never be caught, but he seems to be just fine.

The cat, Martin, escaped when his carrier broke on the way to the vet. He was found near the Wells Fargo building on the corner of West Nelson and Main streets.

“I don’t think he ever actually left that block. He was sighted around the theater, trash cans, all right around that area,” said Jacobs.

With the help of Furever Friends of Buena Vista, the Pet Place set traps around Lexington.

“We had been feeding for a while in traps that weren’t set, and then last night he came into one that was set to go off, and we got him,” said Jacobs.

Martin is currently quarantined, but he will soon be sent for a vet visit, then back to Furever Friends to be placed.

“He’s in quarantine right now, just because he was out for so long before having his vaccinations. After that, he’ll he spayed and vaccinated and microchipped,” said Jacobs.

“He’s going to go back to Furever friends to be placed. He’s really not people oriented, so they may place him as a barn cat, or with someone who can be really dedicated to getting him adjusted, he’s still a little wild right now,” she said.

“Either way, he’ll be very well taken care of, and get lots of love.”
