The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team won its seventh straight game in Buena Vista on Monday Night. Parry McCluer beat nondistrict opponent, Nelson County, in their second meeting of the season to take a 9-3 record. The Blues previously beat Nelson County on the road in a 74-69 victory.
Nelson County’s Colton Ward broke the first quarter’s two minute deadlock for the Governors. After the scoreless start, the game was back and forth. Nathan Glass and JJ Jones both scored and-one points to give PM a 6-2 lead after the early deficit. The first quarter ended 13-9 for the Blues.
At the start of the second quarter, Colton Ward put Nelson County back on top 14-13 by scoring a layup and three pointer. Down 26-29 right before the end of the half, Braedyn Houck scored a three pointer to tie the game 29-29 at the buzzer for the Blues.
The Blues found themselves in a hole early in the third quarter, down 33-32. Free throws from JJ Jones and Evan Cook helped PM regain a lead that they never lost for the rest of the game, going up 38-33. The third quarter ended 44-38.
The final quarter saw a total of 46 points scored between the two teams. Although Nelson County made a late push, the Blues were able to outlast the Governors and won the game 67-61.
The Blues were led in scoring by JJ Jones with 17 points. Landon Catlett scored 15 points.
