The Town Council met on Dec. 12 at the James Thompson Community Center. I had reported that it would take place at the library before I knew about the change in venue.
Newly elected Council members and the mayor were to be sworn in at this meeting. Unfortunately one of those was absent due to heath issues, and another Council member was absent due to illness of a family member. There weren’t enough Council members present to conduct a regular meeting. However Michelle Trout, clerk of court, did swear in Paul Williams as mayor, and Kent Dunn and Tom Camden as councilmen. It was announced that town manager Phil Robinette, had resigned and Jon Ellestad of Lexington would be serving as interim manager. Those present then enjoyed some refreshments and a time of fellowship.
The town did sponsor a Christmas decorating contest and the winners were: first place, the Fredricksens on Powhatan Street; second place, Mike and Andi Bradley on Rockbridge Road; and third place, the Earlys in North Glasgow. Congrats to all, and it was so nice to see lots of decorations and lights this year.
The Town Council members, staff, employees, committee members, and better halves, etc., enjoyed a time of fellowship and refreshments on Dec. 22 at the Thompson Center.
It’s not too soon to start preparing for the new season of the Farmers Market, which will open on Saturday, April 27, with a crafters, artisans and bakers event.
