A letter writer from Lewisburg, W.Va., decried the deterioration of Miller’s Mill and wished someone would restore it. “It’s a lovely old mill and it’s falling in badly … Hopefully this letter will find a home in sympathetic hands.” - The food leaders in each Extension homemaker’s club were emphasizing losing weight or avoiding putting on weight. They recommended a daily caloric intake of 1,200 for women and 1,500 for men. - The Lexington Life Saving and First Aid Crew reported that 1,248 calls were answered in 1973. Crew reporter J.C. Entsminger said, “Our crew functions only on the generosity and big hearts of the people of this fine community.”

New members of the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors put a process in motion to reduce the size of the Planning Commission by nearly half. Mack Smith called the current number of 11 members “unworkable.”
- The post surgeon’s house behind Virginia Military Institute’s Crozet Hall appeared to be toast as the Architectural Review Board voted 2-1 to allow VMI to move forward with its demolition.
