Jan. 3, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: The CARE Rockbridge Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Parade has for the past seven years brought us together in our fight for justice and the common good. As we prepare for a new year, we ask that you mark your calendars for our eighth annual community parade on Jan. 15, stepping off at 10:30 a.m. in front of Randolph Street United Methodist Church, at 118 S. Randolph St. in Lexington.

The more of us who turn out for the MLK parade, the clearer the message of our commitment to each other and to the fight against racism, homophobia, bigotry, and other forms of discrimination and inequity. Please encourage friends, family, and neighbors to join us as we take to the streets of Lexington in our march for justice, love, and equality for all.

We ask that all signs used at the parade respect our family-friendly atmosphere and are made of crushable material. Moreover, no weapons of any kind are permitted in the parade. RATS will once again provide a wheelchair-accessible vehicle for those with mobility concerns. Following the parade, participants are welcome to enjoy hot cocoa (donated by Sweet Treats) and a community soup lunch hosted by Lexington Presbyterian Church.

CARE is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization sustained by the contributions of our community members. You will find details and updates about the event on the web at carerockbridge.org and on Facebook at @CARERockbridge. MOHAMEDKAMARA Board member, CARE Rockbridge
