Jan. 3, 1973

The first school bus rolled off the assembly line at the Blue Bird Body Co. plant just outside Buena Vista. - Angela Marie Hazelwood was the first baby born in the new year at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She received many gifts from downtown Lexington’s merchants including a car seat from Leggett and a $5 savings account from First National Bank.

- More than $9,000 was contributed to the Historic Lexington Foundation during 1972 to aid in the preservation and restoration of important area landmarks.

Lexington Presbyterian Church held its first service in the sanctuary in 30 months. The church suffered a devastating fire in July 2000. - Kathryn Clemmer received the Effinger Ruritan Club’s Citizen of the Year award. - There were some tense moments at the Natural Bridge Shell station when a car caught fire above an underground gas tank and next to a kerosene pump. Firefighters from the Natural Bridge and Glasgow departments quickly put the fire out.
