Blues Sprint Past Craig With Dominant 2nd Half

 


Friday, Jan. 12 -- The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team used a pair of big second-half runs to take control in a 52-14 Pioneer District victory over Craig County in Buena Vista.

Victoria Hamilton scored 16 points to pace the Fighting Blues (10-3, 4-0 Pioneer), while Payton Emore tallied 10 points and five assists as PM picked up its fifth straight victory.

Leading 17-10 early in the third quarter, the Blues reeled off a 19-0 run, extending the margin to 36-10 on Kayleigh Ramsey's fastbreak bucket with 2:21 remaining in the period. PM pulled away further with another 14-0 spurt that stretched into the final stanza.

Tatyana Turner chipped in eight points for the Blues, and Ramsey finished with six markers. Addisen Roberts notched five assists for PM, while Natalie Mohler pulled down a team-high four rebounds.

Ashley Cayton, Kailyn Jones and Daileigh Donithan scored three points apiece for the Rockets (4-6, 1-2), who couldn't overcome 41 turnovers in suffering their fifth consecutive defeat. Gracie Huffman and Jenna Boitnotte each collected six rebounds for Craig.

PM will play host to Rockbridge County on Saturday, with tip time slated for 4 p.m. The Blues beat the Wildcats 48-31 in Lexington on Dec. 27.
