Inspired by the tradition of the community coming together to share homecooked meals, Christ Episcopal Church Warden Joanne Peretti and volunteer helper Kim Serocki have started a bi-monthly community soup lunch held in conjunction with the church’s clothes closet every first and third Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal church hall in Buena Vista.
“Our community soup lunch is free and open to all, and our guests are welcome to dine with us or take their meal away,” explained Peretti. “Getting our program off the ground has been a joyful joining of community hands -- from local chefs donating ingredients, to talented home cooks gathering to prepare the meal, to our guests of all ages and walks of life who partake in a nice hot meal, warm bread, veggie side dish, and dessert.”
“Since we prepare our meals from scratch, we always have plenty to share with gardening guests too,” added Serocki. “Diners take our scraps and trimmings for their compost piles and chicken flocks, so nothing goes to waste.”
The church is located at 2246 Walnut Ave. For more information, including the current menu, visit Christ Episcopal Church - Buena Vista on Facebook.
