Lexington City Council gave preliminary approval for new lighting in the downtown. The distinctive street lamps chosen would be mounted on brown painted posts 14 feet from ground level. -A request for water and sewer service for a proposed shopping center on U.S. 60 west of Buena Vista was denied by Buena Vista City Council. Local merchant Chuck Morgan told council that BV taxpayers shouldn’t pay for water and sewer for a shopping center technically located in the county. - Thomas S. Dixon of the Kerrs Creek District was elected chairman of the Board of Supervisors succeeding David F. “Jim” Bear.

The McCrum’s parking lot on Jefferson Street in Lexington was no longer being considered as the site for a downtown parking deck. An additional parking project improving the old firehouse site also on Jefferson Street – would involve the demolition of the fire station. - Christopher Moore, the 7-year-old county boy who received a life-saving kidney transplant, was “doing super well,” according to his mother, Deborah Moore. His kidney donor, Hubie Hartless, was also healing nicely. -In a colorful feature for the front of the Lifestyle section, Claudia Schwab wrote about her adventures during a trip to Mexico.
