Are Trump Biden ‘Best America Has To Offer?

Jan. 15, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: Being opposed to Donald Trump does not make anyone the opposite of Donald Trump. The presumptive candidates in the upcoming presidential election, Trump and Biden, are unfortunately more alike than different.

Both are of an age when cognition, physical health and productive energy decline. Regrettably neither shows the humble, diplomatic and unifying maturity that should come with decades of experience. Both are divisive with haughty contempt for anyone who dares to disagree. Both look at the camera with practiced sincerity and utter propositions that are simply not true. Both are fond of name calling. Each one has acquired vast sums of money with highly questionable ethics and tactics. Each has condescending, undeserved regard for himself above others. Both are guilty of hypocritical disdain for the policies they expect the population to embrace. The major difference is that one is savaged daily by the media while the other is comically sheltered by the same people.

Is this choice truly the best America has to offer? Regardless of party affiliation, we may want to help ourselves, the nation and the world by supporting candidates who are not self-adoring, sociopathic liars. JOHN SAPPINGTON Rockbridge County
