Our condolences are extended to the Miller family, remembering Ricky Miller who passed away on New Year’s Eve.

Sending wishes of a very happy 80th birthday to Ron Williams in Concord, N.C., from his Valley family and friends. Happy birthday also to Jason Hostetter, Susan Barbour and Violet Taylor and to Faith Baptist member Martha Tolley.

Faith Baptist Church will be having a men’s prayer breakfast this morning at 8, a clothes closet on Jan 20 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and a song and praise service on Jan 28 at 6 p.m.

Many thanks to Dave VanOsten for leading a morning prayer service this past Sunday at St. John’s Episcopal Church and to Bert Buford and Josh Gardner for providing music, which included a piece I wrote for Holy Baptism entitled “Sanacione Aquae Dei (God’s Healing Waters).” It is always a pleasure to hear it played in church and they play it so well! Thanks also to Jim and Sharon White and Nat Massie for hosting coffee hour.

This past Saturday, the first-ever church chili cook-off was held at High Bridge Presbyterian Church. The event was a joint effort between High Bridge and St. John’s Episcopal. The winning chili was chosen by a panel of Baptist judges. Congratulations to the winner, Dave VanOsten of St. John’s.

As you’re reading this, there may or may not be some snow on the ground according to some weather reports I’ve seen (as of Jan 14), the potential for some wintry weather between Jan 15 and 17 is high for at least an inch or two. Like vs. dislike of wintry weather in our community, I believe, is fairly even split. I, for one, very much enjoy the beauty of a good snowfall, as my great-granny Hallie used to say, “It cleans your soul and gets rid of the bugs!” In that spirit, I say let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Any church or community news or happenings, birthdays, anniversaries and the like you want listed? Please don’t hesitate to let me know!
