Leading the worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Jan. 21, was Greg Jewitt, area representative of the Lexington and Rockbridge County Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
During the worship service, Frances Ruley and Jeanne Staton presented a skit on the importance of supporting the Presbyterian Women’s annual Blanket Sunday campaign. Each year they partner with Church World Service to purchase and distribute blankets to needy individuals and families in the United States and around the world. The community is invited to join in this project by making a monetary donation or by honoring a friend with a contribution to the Blanket Sunday initiative. The cost of a blanket is $10. Donations should be designated for Blanket Sunday and mailed to the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450 or dropped off at the church by Blanket Sunday, Jan. 28. For a needy family or individual a blanket is a lifeline providing shelter, warmth, a way of storing and transporting belongings, and is often a source of protection for those who lack adequate clothing. A week of extremely cold temperatures is a reminder of why Blanket Sunday support is needed.
