High school basketball fans will have a full menu of games to watch this weekend while supporting a noble cause at the 10th annual Rock the Ribbon Roundball Shootout this Friday and Saturday at Rockbridge County High School.
All four local high school teams will participate in the event, which is presented by ALCOVA Mortgage and Rock Hardwoods, with many other sponsors contributing. The event is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. There will be 12 games, one more than last year, showcasing some of the best basketball players in the Mid-Atlantic Region, as well as a couple of teams from Kansas. In the first nine years, Rock the Ribbon raised about $94,000.
Day passes for Rock the Ribbon are $10 and can be purchased at the gate, with children 10 and under getting in free. Spectators can come and go as they please. Concessions and t-shirts will be sold.
There will be four games on Friday and eight games on Saturday. “It should be a great weekend,” said Rock the Ribbon founder and director Travis Patterson.
