Dr. Frank “Major” Wray of Halifax died on Jan. 26, 2024.
He was born in Buena Vista in 1933. He was the son of the late Peter Wray and Nellie Staton Wray.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Tomlinson Wray of Halifax; son Stephen Wray of Wake Forest, N.C.; daughter Jacquelyn (Mark) Comuzzi and his kids Anthony and Nicole of Richmond; three granddaughters, Libby Wray Epps (Luke) and their son McCoy Wray Growe of Savannah, Ga., Ava Wray and Lorelei Wray of Danville; and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Bill and Davis Wray and sister Ruby Viar (Neal). Also preceding him was half-brother Desmond C. Wray of Staunton.
He attended the public schools in Lexington and was a U.S.A.F. veteran. Subsequent to his military service, his undergraduate studies in chemistry were at the University of Richmond and after three years enrolled at the Medical College of Virginia, graduating in 1967. He began his practice of general medicine in South Boston in 1968.
