A group of volunteers from Rockbridge Church were involved in a bus crash the last week of January during a mission trip to the Dominican Republic.

There were no fatalities, but some members were injured.

“Unfortunately as our members were traveling to the airport to fly home, the bus transporting them was struck by a large truck,” according to statement the church issued last week.

“While the collision was significant and the incident was frightening for those involved, miraculously there were no fatalities and those needing medical attention are stable and recovering.”

The accident happened during the church’s annual volunteer trip.

“Each year Rockbridge Church is grateful for the opportunity to send a team of volunteers to the Dominican Republic in an effort to equip local churches in the under-resourced sugarcane villages surrounding San Pedro,” said the statement.

The church thanked the community for their support, and for praying for the injured.

“We are so very thankful for God’s protection and the prayers and support of the community,” said the statement. “We are excited to return soon to visit with our friends in the DR.”

Rockbridge Church meets at Maury River Middle School.
