Buena Vista

Staton Elected Vice Mayor

Danny Staton was elected vice mayor Thursday by his fellow members of Buena Vista City Council.

The election of a vice mayor is usually held during the biennial reorganizational meeting held the first January meeting every other year but was delayed by a month this year. Council, down one member by the elevation of Tyson Cooper to mayor, wanted the vice mayor to be chosen by a full seven-member Council. Todd Jones, selected Jan. 18 to fill the vacancy, attended his first meeting on Thursday.

Cooper unveiled his plans for Council committee assignments. Steve Webb and Todd Jones are to serve on the budget and finance committee, Ronald Cash and Michelle Poloukis are to serve on the school facilities committee and Staton and Melvin Henson are to serve on the outdoor space committee.

The two members of each committee are to select one or two citizens to also serve on the committees. Those interested in serving on a committee are asked to contact Clerk of Council Sarah Burch.

Appointments

City Council made three appointments on Thursday.

Tim Petrie was appointed to the Public Recreation Facilities Authority, Michael Lonergan was appointed to the Economic Development Authority and Jody Fix was appointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
