Katherine Ann Jones peacefully passed away on Jan. 30, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

Katherine “Kit” was born on July 4, 1948, to Emily and Kenneth Warrell, and grew up in Virginia Beach. Kit was married to William “Bill” Alden Jones Jr. for 55 years and will always be the love of his life.

Kit graduated from Old Dominion University with a degree in elementary education and loved children. She taught kindergarten through middle school as a classroom teacher and as a Title 1 reading and math teacher in North Carolina and Virginia.

Kit was the loving mother of three daughters and grandmama of seven grandchildren. She adored sharing cookies, games and crafts with them all. Kit greatly enjoyed quilting, color theory, basket weaving, knitting, baking, gardening, genealogy and music. She was a quietly determined, brave and strong individual. A quote displayed on her wall read, “Be kinder than necessary,” and she always exemplified this.

The family would like to thank the care teams at Hospice of the Shenandoah, ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice, and all who volunteered to be by her side for their loving support.

Those left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, William “Bill” Alden Jones Jr.; mother, Emily Ruth Warrell; daughters and sons-in-law, Amy Katherine and Clifford Cale Vann, Hannah Grace and Charles Britt Bailey, Caren Elizabeth and Nathan Carter McFall; and grandchildren, Rebecca Mabel Vann, Maggie Katherine Vann, Cale Thomas Vann, Tristan Anthony Ripani, Laurel Ann Ripani, Annabelle Tally McFall and Juniper Fen McFall.

Family and friends are invited to honor Kit’s life Saturday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. at Maury River Friends Meeting House, 34 Waterloo Dr., Lexington, VA 24450. A covered- dish lunch will follow the memorial.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
