Thursday, Feb. 8 – The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team defended its Pioneer District regular-season title by earning a 39-32 home win over Narrows on Wednesday night in Buena Vista.
Natalie Mohler led the Fighting Blues (17-3 overall, 8-0 district) with a game-high 14 points, sinking PM’s lone 3-pointer of the night. It was the 13th consecutive win for the Blues, who completed a sweep of the regular-season series with the Green Wave (9-11, 5-2). When the teams met on Dec. 13 at Narrows, PM earned a 48-45 comeback win.
After a back-and-forth, physical first half in the rematch, PM led 19-17 at the break. The Blues’ half-court trap forced Narrows into turnovers early, but PM struggled to get into a rhythm offensively. PM's defense continued to remain strong in the second half, and the Blues’ offense started to find its groove at the right time, outscoring Narrows 12-5 in the third quarter and cruising to a comfortable victory.
The Blues will enter the Pioneer District tournament as the top seed, with Narrows as the second seed, and will have a bye in the quarterfinals before playing host for a Pioneer District semifinal game next Wednesday, Feb. 14. Check back here for the game time and opponent.
