Monday, Feb. 12 – The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team won the Pioneer District regular-season title and earned the top seed in the district tournament by defeating Narrows 90-74 on Monday night at James River High School in Buchanan.
PM (19-4 overall, 10-1 district) and Narrows (19-4, 9-2) were playing the first-place game at a neutral location because they had the same district records at the end of the regular season, with the Green Wave winning 54-52 at PM on Dec. 12 and the Fighting Blues winning 83-66 at Narrows last Thursday in the final game of the regular season.
In Monday’s game, the Blues tied their highest-scoring total of the season.
Narrows was the district regular-season and tournament champion last year, with the Blues finishing second. PM had won the previous three regular-season titles and the previous two tournament titles.
The Blues will play host for a district semifinal game against Bath County on Wednesday at 7 p.m. If the Blues win, they will play host for the district championship game on Friday at 7 p.m.
The story on the Blues' road wins over Narrows and Bath County last week will be in our Feb. 14 newspaper.
