The Rockbridge Symphony returns to Washington and Lee’s Lenfest Center for the Arts in Wilson Hall this Saturday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. for a night of famous movie theme songs and dance music.
“We are excited both for the opportunity to play in that wonderful space, and to be able to host a reception afterward, in Lykes Atrium,” said Jack Bissett, president of the Symphony’s steering committee, “And I know music director Dr. Yi-Ping will enjoy her first experience of conducting the Symphony in Wilson Hall.”
With the theme, “Music that Moves Us,” the concert’s first half features music from the movies “La La Land,” “ET,” “Lord of the Rings,” “Aladdin,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
In the second half of the evening’s program, the audience will be invited to get up and move to “Smooth,” “Blue Tango,” “Let’s Get Loud,” “Salute to the Big Bands,” “Moon River,” and Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty Waltz.”
Members of the Halestone Dance Studio will dance during some songs and will encourage the audience to join.
The post-concert reception is a bonus to attendees and an expression of thanks to the community for its continued support.
Tickets will be $5 for students; $15 for adults; and youths 12 and under free. The tickets include the post-concert reception. Advance tickets are available at four downtown stores: Artists in Cahoots, Cheese to You, Sugar Maple Trading Company, and University Florist, online (will-call only) at www.Rockbridgesymphony. org, or at the door. Seating and ticket availability will be limited to allow room for dancing.
