Ecco Adesso Vineyards Wins Award

Ecco Adesso Vineyards in Fairfield has won a top award in the 2024 Virginia Governor’s Cup competition. The Virginia Wineries Association conducts the competition, now in its 42nd year, and is one of the most stringent wine competitions in the nation. The year, the judging was done at Breaux Vineyards in Purcellville in January over two tasting rounds.

Ecco Adesso Vineyards in Fairfield has won a top award in the 2024 Virginia Governor’s Cup competition. The Virginia Wineries Association conducts the competition, now in its 42nd year, and is one of the most stringent wine competitions in the nation. The year, the judging was done at Breaux Vineyards in Purcellville in January over two tasting rounds.

Ecco Adesso’s received a gold medal for its 2022 New World Virginia Chardonnay. Ecco Adesso also received silver medals for its 2021 Primo Bianco Chardonnay Weatherly Family Reserve, 2022 New World Virginia Cabernet Franc and 2022 Old World Virginia Chardonnay; and a bronze medal for its 2022 Old World Virginia Cabernet Franc.

This was the vineyard’s first time entering the competition. The silver medal-winning 2021 Primo Bianco Chardonnay was actually the first wine produced by the vineyard.

Vineyard general manager Tara Orebaugh said, “We are very honored to have won a gold medal, especially in the first year that we entered the competition. We’re also pleased that we won a silver medal for the first wine we ever produced.”

Other local vineyards winning awards in this year’s competition were Jump Mountain Vineyard, Rockbridge Vineyard and Great Valley Farm Winery. Jump Mountain won two silver medals for its 2021 Livia and 2021 Sparkling Gruner Veltliner. Rockbridge Vineyard won five silver medals for its 2017 DeChiel Cabernet Franc, 2017 DeChiel Syrah, 2019 Rockbridge Chardonnay, 2021 DeChiel Chardonnay and its 2022 DeChiel Viognier.

In addition to Ecco Adesso, bronze medals were awarded to Great Valley Farm Winery’s 2021 Chambourcin and 2022 Blaufrankish, and to Rockbridge Vineyard’s 2019 Rockbridge Tuscarora Red.
