Feb. 20, 1974

Gov. Mills Godwin announced a statewide gasoline distribution plan to combat fuel shortages. Motorists with odd-numbered plates were only permitted to buy gas on the odd-numbered days of the month. Likewise, those with evennumbered license plates were allowed to fill up their tanks on even-numbered days. - The search was on for a gunman who robbed the Fairfield branch of the Bank of Rockbridge. The thief made off with less than $2,000 in cash. No one was injured in the hold-up. - Glasgow Town Council member Sam Blackburn announced his intention to run for mayor of the town.

Feb. 25, 2004

Architect Chuck Wray presented a conceptual design of the new courts facility at a meeting of the Architectural Review Board. The Friday’s Alive site remained a viable possibility for a downtown parking deck. - Longtime Lexington First Baptist Church minister and Lexington City Council member LaVert Taylor accepted a position as a case manager for the Embrace program at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. - Following the partial collapse of the rear wall of the former Blue Ridge Tea Room, Glasgow Town Council met in an emergency session to ensure the demolishment of the rest of the building, long thought to be a safety hazard.
