‘Selective Memory, Hypocrisy’ On Ukraine Aid Issue

Feb. 25, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: It is a fascinating twist Mr. Zitver, the local Democrat Party chieftain and The News-Gazette join hands to accuse Republican members of Congress of “betrayal” and “shameful and craven” behavior regarding many Republican office holders’ understandable reluctance to continue to fund Ukraine’s military and government. Strong words to be sure, but themselves betray at best, selective memory, or at worst, insincerity, and hypocrisy in a presidential campaign season.

So, let’s address selective memory first. The Democrat Party and especially President Biden, in fact, are masters of betrayal, whose shameful and craven foreign policy since the Democrat Party’s leftwing lurch beginning in early 1970s. Then, Senator Biden and Democrat colleagues yanked critical military aid to anti-Communist South Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia at a critical time. Is anyone aware if President Biden expressed any remorse?

As for hypocrisy, some prefer Congressman Cline takes his oath of office seriously to see our American Government upholds immigration law and protects Americans first. T he recent and wholly preventable death of another young American college student at the hands of an illegal immigrant and criminal this time in Georgia should outrage everyone but doesn’t. Evidently to Mr. Zitver, President Biden and The News-Gazette. DOUGLAS SMITH Lexington
