Duke University freshman Ali Pfaff, a 2023 Rockbridge County High School graduate, helped the Blue Devils’ women’s swim team collect their most points in program history at the Atlantic Coach Conference Championships last week at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
Pfaff placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in 52 seconds. and 17th in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:54.78.
The 779.5 points collected by the Duke women over the five-day event that went from last Tuesday to Saturday were the most in a single ACC Championship meet in program history and were the most since 2018 when they collected 756.5 points and finished sixth in the event.
Duke placed fifth of 11 teams. Virginia won the meet with 1,637.5 points, while Louisville (1,145) placed second, and N.C. State (1,106) finished third. Rounding out the top seven were North Carolina (786.5), Duke, Virginia Tech (632.5) and Florida State (531).

During her high school career, Pfaff won four individual state titles. In July, Pfaff qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials, achieving the qualifying time when she won the 100-meter backstroke at the Virginia State Swimming Senior Champs meet.
